Tallahassee - The Republican Party of Florida has removed the state’s top Republican elected official, Governor Charlie Crist, from the official GOP website.
As of today, the Florida GOP website lists Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp as the Republican ranking official statewide.
Clearly, this is a sign of what is to come, possibly as soon as this afternoon as Governor Charlie Crist is scheduled to announce his US Senate bid in Saint Petersburg today just prior to tomorrow’s filing deadline. The press and Crist’s chief Republican rival, Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, have speculated for weeks that Gov. Crist may file as a “No Party Affiliation” (NPA) candidate. This would allow the Crist for US Senate Campaign to avoid a costly Republican Primary race with the Rubio Campaign. Florida is a “Closed Primary” state which means only registered Republicans can vote in the primary. Also, Crist’s Name will not appear on the Republican Ballot. As an NPA Candidate, the Crist Campaign can focus exclusively on the General Election in November.
